Vamped & Vintage, run by Kathy Ballard is a regular at our fairs and a very talented and passionate up-cycler of vintage furniture and homewares. Find out a little bit more about her business here…
How did you get into vintage?
I was looking for ways to re-use old furniture items and started buying at boot fairs. Then a friend got a Groupon for a group of us to do a chalk painting course. I was hooked! I refurbished and/or painted what I bought, and then re-sold it online. Just a few small items at first. At the same time I started attending an upholstery class, because I kept coming across chairs that were crying out for tlc. Again, I became hooked.
Is it s full time job or a hobby for you?
It's a full-time job, but I have another part-time job as well. You'll never find a bored vintage dealer!
Where are you based?
I'm based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. I work from home, but travel to small and large fairs around the south of England.
What sorts of pieces do you sell?
Generally I sell furniture and homewares that have a vintage and country feel. I like bringing old unloved pieces to life with paint, fabric, decoupage etc. However, I also love restoring vintage and antique furniture to its original glory and with traditional upholstery.
Aside from fairs, where can people find you?
I have a stall in the Rocking Horse Emporium at 15-17 The Martlets, Burgess Hill and also sell on Facebook. But I just love selling at fairs and get to as many as I can.
Does anyone else help you with Vamped & Vintage?
I sometimes have my assistant, Ruby, with me. She's not very good at the practical stuff, but she's great at customer care! She welcomes everyone with a wagging tail and is always happy to share her water bowl with other four-legged friends.
