How did you get into photography?
I have been 'dabbling' in photography for many years as my father was a photographer. After a completely different career and children, I went back to University in 2013, finished in 2016 with a Degree in Visual Arts from Brighton. I have been steadily building the business since then.
What is your core speciality?
My speciality is photographic art, but I also do event photography, portraits, lifestyle and macro photography (extreme close-up photography).
I guess my skill is being able to see things from a different perspective to the norm. I can really zoom in on the tiniest detail. I think this has been honed by a career in creative arts. I spent 25 years as a make-up artist working in London with high level photographers, magazines, celebrities, musicians and public figures. Being a makeup artist means you are focusing 'up-close and personal' on the tiniest elements of a design. Being in that business has also given me adaptability and flexibility with what and how I shoot.
How do you usually sell your photography?
I tend to sell through world of mouth, recommendation and commissions. I like to meet my clients face to face and discuss needs, budget and timeline; to get to know them and connect with them personally, which really helps with how I go about my work for them.
Kate will be at the Westerham Brocante this Friday, 7 June 2019.
